APPLICATIONS OF ERROR CONTROL CODING TECHNIQUES
1)
Coding for White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) Channels:
• Forward
error correction (FEC) codes are used for AWGN Channels. Line-of-sight radio
connections, such as satellite and deep space communication links, are typical
applications.
• In channels
that may be described as White Gaussian noise channels, Forward Error
Correcting (FEC) codes are employed for error correction.
•
Line-of-sight radio communications, such as satellite and deep space
communication lines, are common applications.
2)
Coding for compound-error channels:
• Automatic
Repeat Request (ARQ) techniques are used for compound-error channels. Telephone
and radio channels are two examples of common applications.
• A mixture
of random (independent) and burst errors can be found in many real-world
communication channels. These are referred to as Compound-error channels.
Telephone and radio channels are two examples.
• Automatic
Repeat Request is an effective method for error protection over compound-error
channels (ARQ).
3)
Block codes for error Control in data storage
• Block codes
are widely used in magnetic tapes, mass storage systems, magnetic discs, and
other data storage systems to offer error control.
4)
Trellis-Coded Modulation (TCM) for efficient utilization of Bandwidth and power
• TCM
(Trellis-coded Modulation) combines convolutional coding and modulation into a
single function. TCM is used in the development of a new generation of
telephone channel modems.
• The
benefits of error correction coding are obtained at the expense of greater
bandwidth.
• We must
make efficient use of the key resources of bandwidth and power in
communication.
