Comparison between LED TV and LCD TV

Comparison between LED TV and LCD TV

LCD TV

In the modern era, LCD (Liquid Cristal Display) is the most common type of television. An LCD screen is on the front portion of a fluorescent backlight display in an LCD TV. When the light from behind the screen falls on the LCD screen and a picture is created with the colour combinations, the television shows the image.

Advantages of LCD TV

1. LCD TVs are inexpensive

2. Apt for flat screen television

Disadvantages

1. LCD TVs cannot give a true black colour experience

2. Not suitable due to motion delays and higher latency, LCD TVs are not applicable for high frame rate gaming.

LED Display

A flat panel display that uses a variety of light-emitting diodes for video display is said to be an LED display. A small display, or component of a bigger display is the LED panel. Typically they are used in shop signs, billboard outdoors, and have also been commonly used in destination signs on public transport vehicles. It can be also used as part of the transparent glass area in recent years. The major applications of LED display are: for general lighting purposes, task lighting, or even stage lighting rather than display.

LED TV

LED televisions are relatively modern entertainment systems that use TV backlighting with a set of light emitting diodes. Basically, LED (Light Emitting Diodes) TVs are LCDs only. The only difference is that smaller LEDs are used in LED TVs, instead of the lamp behind the panel that was used to illuminate the LCD fluorescent light in LCD TVs. The operation of the TV remains the same but the screen is much slimmer in size, energy efficient and can create a real black effect to a much greater degree because of the use of LEDs.

Working of an LED TV

The common working of televisions are through back-lit projection from a light source and onto the display screen.   Older TVs use normal cathode ray tubes set on the back of the TV and project light onto the screen. To display light, LED televisions replace the tube with tiny light emitting diodes. LEDs are much smaller than cathode ray tubes, allowing the construction of lighter and thinner televisions. LEDs are more realistic sources of light that allow darker colours to be projected better than old CRT television sets. The LED TVs widely used are: Edge and RGBB TVs.

Advantages of LED TVs

1. As compared to other types, LED TVs are extremely slim and come in a range of sizes.

2. They use less power due to the use of smaller LEDs to illuminate the light.

3. Provide the LCD TVs with a richer, truer black experience.

4. They have high response time, so without any motion delay and lags, one can enjoy high frame console gaming.

5. The wider viewing angle of the LED TV is about 175 degrees, which provides a better image quality even when viewed from the corners.

Disadvantages of LED TVs

1. The main disadvantage of LED TV is they are very expensive than LCDs and Plasma TVs.
